I had the time of my life.
On Saturday I went to a ball. A really life, grown up, charity ball.
It’s been a while since I’ve been to a posh do, I’m thinking probably pre-children, and it’s normally the sort of event I’d go to with Mr Aimee, however as it was my pal organising it, we decided just to go as the girls.
The problem is, I’m not very good at dressing up anymore. I used to be well up for a bit of glitz and heels, but to be honest, these days I’m more of a jeans and pretty top kinda gal. Plus, the biggest heels I’m used to wearing are my converse.
So what to wear? I pulled out all my lovely dresses that I used to wear in the pre-child days. I tried them on, I convinced myself that this one would be fine if I just did this, and that one would be ok if I bought some different shoes, but at the end of the day I looked in the mirror and I just wasn’t happy. I didn’t feel like me anymore. After all, those dresses, they were me six or seven years ago. I’m very different (and a lot more lumpy) these days.
So in a mad panic I bought a load of dresses from my old reliable place of worship (ASOS) and told Mr Aimee “just to prove to myself that my other dresses are perfectly acceptable”. I told him I “didn’t expect any of them to look right” and to be honest, I didn’t. But well, one did.
Here I am looking all grown up in it.
It took a while to get my make up right after The Chunk asked me why my eyes were broken so I had to quickly wipe it off and start again, and I’m quite pleased I opted for lighter eyes in the end!
Of course I can’t go to the ball in the MIDDLE OF WINTER (ok, Autumn but still) in just a dress, so I hunted through the house and found my wedding shoes (Rolando Cartier), a trusty silver handbag (Warehouse) and my favourite sparkly jacket thing (French Connection) and this is how I looked before getting in the car.
We had a great time, lots of prosecco lots of dancing, I even managed to fulfil a life long dream of performing the final dance to Dirty Dancing with somebody I’d only met that night.
Oh, and this is how my outfit looked when I woke up on Sunday morning.
